#2 – PureGym Cambridge Leisure Park / Grafton Centre

2 cambridge 24 hour gym

Our next entry is for those looking for a 24 hour gym in Cambridge that also caters for your budget-friendly needs without sacrificing the quality of its environment

PureGym is one of those names that follows you no matter where in the country you are, you’ve heard of it, you know what they stand for; there's no guessing games and unknown expectations, you know exactly what you’re getting with a PureGym.

Their gyms in Cambridge (yes, there are two) provide the standard of delivery that PureGym strive to meet and offer members the choice of cheap gyms in Cambridge to choose from.

One of the main selling points for both of the Cambridge gyms is their large number, and variety, of group classes. The majority of these classes are included in the cost of your membership and can provide a great addition to your standard workout routine!

For example, if you want to add a bit of cardio into your workouts then why not book onto one of PureGym’s ‘Burn It’ classes for an intense 30 minute workout designed to shed calories while getting your lungs pumping instead of isolating yourself on the treadmill? Or, if you usually stick to cardio workouts on the gym floor, then give their ‘Pump’ class a try, where you can be eased into the world of weightlifting in a motivational group environment.

However, if group classes aren’t your thing and you’re more of a lone ranger in the gym, then you’re still getting a great value gym membership where you have all the equipment you could need for a well-rounded workout. And this will be a well-rounded workout that you have access to whenever you like, as PureGym provides one of the only venues for a 24 hour gym in Cambridge.

For those days you're low on energy -  something that you may struggle with more so as we creep into the colder months - you my find yourself in need of an extra boost. To ensure you're making the most out of your workouts, head over to our article on the best BCAA tablets to boost your workouts in 2020.

PureGym’s memberships are all free of contracts, meaning you can cancel at any time. If you find yourself torn between their two venues in Cambridge, you’ll be pleased to know that PureGym’s Cambridge gym membership includes multigym access - giving you the ability to utilise both facilities.

Their ‘Plus’ Membership also entitles members to four guest passes per month for your friends or family, access to their Yanga Sports Water machine, as well as a longer window to book classes in advance - with all this in mind, it is easy to see how this takes the title as one of best gyms in Cambridge.

#3 – Gymbo’s Sawston

3 cambridge boxing gym

Another independent entry for our best gym in Cambridge shortlist comes from this impressive venue.

Gymbo’s Sawston is an independent gym in Cambridge providing a new way of working out, contrasting the hands-off approach some more impersonal, commercial gyms provide.

Their way of supporting members is by combining a free weights gym in Cambridge with a personal training centre all under one roof, where small group sessions and private and semi-private training are encouraged and easily available to book onto at all times of the day.

Over the course of a month, Gymbo’s Sawston hold a variety of over 120 40-minute small group sessions consisting of:

  • Bootcamp
  • Metabolic Supercharger
  • Strength and Conditioning
  • Ladies That Lift
  • Core and Mobility
  • Core Control
  • Legs, Bums and Tums
  • AMRAP
  • Wake Up!

What makes these small group sessions unique when compared to group classes from other gyms is that this health club in Cambridge limits their attendance to just seven people per class. By doing this, you can be sure to receive all the required attention you could need from the staff trainer, as well as providing everyone with more space and equipment to feel comfortable.

Of course, you are welcome to attend Gymbo’s with a basic gym-only membership and utilise their high-quality equipment by yourself, but it’s the small group classes that make Gymbo’s really shine amongst other Cambridge gyms.

With all that is on offer and the state-of-the-art equipment this gym posseses, there is no doubt you're in for some grelling sessions; for the times your body needs some help with recovery, check out OriGym's guide on the best massage guns in the UK to minimise the chances of injury and speed up your recovery!

If you’re worried that all of this must come at a price, then you can think again, as a membership at Gymbo’s starts at just £27 a month - therefore still providing an option for those specifically looking for a cheap gym in Cambridge.

Their website is incredibly detailed so if you think that this Cambridge health club could be for you then we definitely encourage you to go and check them out!

Location: Unit M2, Dales Manor Business Park, Sawston, Cambridgeshire, CB22 3TJ

#7 – Abbey Leisure Complex

7 free weights gym cambridge

If your fitness needs require more than a selection of treadmills and a rack of free weights, then we have the best gym in Cambridge for you.

While you may not be familiar with Better as a brand name, it is likely that you will be familiar with one of their venus, as they are the faces behind 258 facilities in the UK. The charitable social enterprise is committed to delivering a better quality of fitness and leisure, libraries and performing arts facilities for everyone in the UK at a price that all can afford.

One of the most desirable features of Better is that they will likely have more than one type of facility in each region, with both venues offering different services to capture the needs of most people. For example, if you are searching for leisure centres in Cambridge, then Better have two offerings that you may be interested in – the first of which being the Abbey Leisure Complex.

Abbey Leisure Complex offers members a full 60-piece gym suite, fully air conditioned and filled with a mixture of cardio and resistance machines as well as free weights. Staff here will be glad to provide you with a tailored workout plan so don’t be afraid to ask!

#8 – Parkside Pools and Gym

8 cheap gyms in cambridge

Following on from our previous entry is the second of Better’s Cambridge venues.

Unlike their Abbey Leisure Complex, Parkside Pools and Gym would be a great choice for people looking for a gym in Cambridge city centre.

While Abbey Leisure Complex provides a great option for those looking for Cambridge gyms with pools outside of the city, the swimming facilities at Parkside Pools and Gym are in fact bigger and bolder at this city centre location.

At this Cambridge fitness & wellbeing gym, there is the main fitness pool which is a 25-metre-long swimming pool with up to eight lanes, as well as a flexible depth teaching and diving pool, both of which run alongside the children’s leisure pool.

The gym at Parkside Pools and Gym is also bigger and contains 100 workout stations as opposed to the 60 its sister venue offers, which provides members with a varied range so they can be sure to hit all muscle groups.

Classes in the studio vary between Abbey Leisure Complex and Parkside Pools and Gym, so be sure to check out both timetables to make sure you choose a gym that offers what you want when you want it!

And finally, this gym also offers members a functional outdoor fitness area, complete with an IGNITE RIG training frame. This piece of equipment contains multiple workout stations in one, with facilities such as monkey bars, rebound boards, battle ropes, and more! This is a great way to get some functional training into your workout while also spending some time outdoors – perfect.

Now while you can purchase a membership for either Abbey Leisure Complex or Parkside Pools and Gym, you will find you can get a much higher value membership by signing up to a Better All Inclusive membership for not a whole lot more money. This membership can either entitle you to access all Better venues across the country, or you can opt for just their Cambridge fitness clubs for a lower cost.

If you choose this, then you can attend either venue depending on what is more convenient for your location at the time, or maybe adjust your gym visits based on what group classes and athletic facilities you want to take advantage of, the choice is yours!

The venue is home to both a 25m indoor pool and a 20m heated outdoor pool, with classes and activities on offer for both adults and children of all abilities if you wish to improve your skills in the water.

Not all David Lloyd gyms come with tennis facilities, however, if you live in Cambridge and want to try your hand at the biggest racquet sport in the world then you’re in luck! The Cambridge health club has an impressive eight indoor courts and five outdoor courts, as well as four badminton courts, to choose from, with coaching courses also on offer and social and competitive leagues for those who want a bit of competition in their life!

#10 – Nuffield Health Cambridge

cambridge gyms with pools

Our next entry is for the men looking for an impressive strength gym in Cambridge city centre and the women searching high and low for a ladies only gym in Cambridge.

Growing rapidly in popularity, Nuffield Health provides some of the best fitness names in the country and their Cambridge fitness centre should be a serious consideration for anyone with an interest in improving their fitness and overall health.

In terms of fitness equipment, Nuffield Health is up there with the best. Supplied by Technogym, classic pieces of equipment get a revamp and offer unique benefits. For example, the gym staple treadmills and rowing machines are adapted into Technogym’s Skillrun, Skillrow, and Skillmill, providing users with a more complete workout and customizable qualities.

For the avid runners, just like any other form of training, we always recommend tracking your progress. If you are yet to invest (and we promise, it is an investment) in a sports watch, we'd highly encourage you to check out our guide on the best running watches of 2020, and watch how your peformance improves.

The fitness suite at this Cambridge fitness centre isn't all about these machines though, as it is still a free weights gym in Cambridge where you can pump iron and increase your strength with isolation or full body exercises.

As we started with, if you're looking for a ladies only gym in Cambridge then Nuffield Health can be a great choice for you, as they are the among the only fitness clubs in Cambridge to have their own dedicated ladies only areas where women can workout any way that they like, with no compromises in equipment choice.

But all these features make up the bare minimum of what this health club in Cambridge has to offer. As a member, you’ll also have access to their state-of-the-art spa facilities and swimming pool, including sauna and steam room! You’ll also be able to attend any number of their quality group exercise classes.

The most unique feature of Nuffield Health though is their Health MOTs. Included in your membership price, you can receive a meeting with a qualified member of staff where you can identify any issues with your current health or lifestyle and the best ways to go about exercising to deal with or potentially fix these issues.

While it is not the cheapest option on our shortlist, it is most definitely one of the more impressive health clubs in Cambridge, making every penny you spend more than worth it.

Nuffield Health definitely has the potential to be the best gym in Cambridge (UK), so get in touch with them and book your gym tour to get a more in depth, personal look for yourself!

Location: Cromwell Road, Cambridge, CB1 3BA

Opening Hours: Monday – Friday: 06:00 – 22:00; Saturday – Sunday: 08:00 – 21:00

#11 – Kelsey Kerridge

24 hour gym cambridge

As we slowly approach the end of our shortlist of the ‘best health clubs in Cambridge’, we couldn’t leave the list absent of an option for those searching for a boxing gym in Cambridge.

The Kelsey Kerridge fitness centre in Cambridge could very well be the best gym in Cambridge (UK). With so many quality facilities on offer, and the opportunity for members to try their hand at activities that simply aren’t offered by other gyms in Cambridge, Kelsey Kerridge is a great choice for anybody with an interest in living an active lifestyle in Cambridge.

The gym equipment is split into two different areas: Outlooks gym and the Free Weights gym. Your membership can be catered to include both or just one of these gyms in order to cut costs.

Outlooks gym is a well-rounded fitness suite, offering members a choice of cardio, strength, and functional training equipment to choose from for their workout. This facility is targeted for use by the average gym goer: people who train for fitness and predominantly utilise cardio equipment but still want the option of using strength equipment and free weights.

The Free Weights gym in the Cambridge fitness centre, on the other hand, has less cardio equipment than the Outlooks gym and is built for members who want to have as much strength equipment available to them as possible.

These two facilities would be more than enough to warrant the price of membership, but Kelsey Kerridge has more to offer!

A broad list of fitness classes and a full sports centre to hire are also on offer to members, and what’s more, if you’re looking for something a little more niche, like a martial arts dojo or a facility in Cambridge with a climbing gym - you’ll be further impressed to know that this facility has it all.

If you’re looking for a boxing gym in Cambridge then you’ll be pleased to hear that one of the fitness classes on offer from Kelsey Kerridge is one to one boxing for all levels, however there is also a boxercise class if you want a more fitness focussed training session. And with trained members of staff running these sessions, Kelsey Kerridge is a solid choice of Cambridge boxing gym if you want somewhere you can keep fit and train on top of your boxing classes.

The attire you wear to box in is crucial to your performance; it can very much be the make or break of your execution. To ensure you are best prepared, take a look at our article of the best boxing shoes of 2020.

If you have any interest at all in playing sports alongside working out at the gym, then it will be tough to find any other health clubs in Cambridge that rival this one.

Opening Hours: Monday – Sunday: 09:00 – 23:00

#12 – Zone Outdoor Fitness

outdoor gym cambridge

For a unique way of getting your exercise in, consider joining Zone Outdoor Fitness, an outdoor gym in Cambridge Jesus Green, where you can exercise as part of a group in a beautiful outdoors environment

Training outdoors can be a literal breath of fresh air when compared to training in a sweaty, stuffy gym. As well as this, because you will be training with more body weight exercises rather than using heavy gym equipment, you are limiting your risk of injury and improving your overall functional health rather than isolating specific muscles.

On top of the outdoor classes, Zone Outdoor Fitness also provides their members with access to online classes from the comfort of your own home or wherever you want to train!

The classes on offer are circuits, weights, and ‘Blast’, with a yoga class taking place online on Sundays. With their inclusive, group fitness class method, Zone Fitness have not only created a great way to get fit, but they have formed a community of like-minded people and a great way to make friends and help make your time exercising more enjoyable for everyone.

For a full guide on outdoor training, check out our article that tells you everything you need to know prior to starting your journey with Zone.

We understand committing to a new membership can  be daunting, especially with something so unique and unlike any other gym membership in Cambridge, so Zone have combated this by offering all new members the chance to receive their first class completely free of charge so you can get a taste of their technique and see if outdoor training is for you.

#13 – Cambridge MMA

13 boxing gym cambridge

And finally, we have reached the end of our list, and we thought we would finish it with something a little different.

If you’re wanting to build on your fitness and stay in shape, but a normal gym environment just isn’t for you, then maybe consider something new and join the Cambridge MMA gym.

Cambridge MMA Gym also provides an excellent space for those who have trained in MMA previously, surrounding you with a professional environment equipped with advanced training classes, as well as programmes with a direct route to competition.

Becoming a member here will mean you can attend classes built for your skill level. At these classes, you will be under the instruction of professional, trained instructors and with their guidance you will have a safe yet high intensity workout with members around you that match your skill; training in MMA can provide a gruelling full body workout, it all depends on how much you put into it!

One of the more noticeable benefits people who train MMA feel is a massive improvement to their cardio. Performing with intensity over an hour-long class promotes rapid cardio improvement, especially when compared with other steady state cardio activities like treadmill work.

Other benefits will be improved strength, flexibility, coordination, and mental health. These are all great qualities for people to have and will be important for you whether you only train in MMA or perform other sports too.

If you’re worried about training in a martial art due to issues such as injuries, then we advise you to not be afraid at all! Just like when weight training in a normal gym, you are most prone to injuries when you are careless with warm ups, cool downs, and when not performing the correct form when exercising. By following the careful instruction of your coach at Cambridge MMA Gym, you can ensure that you will be as safe as possible from injuries.

To read more about other common sports related and weightlifting injuries, as well as a prevention guide for future reference, read our full article on common weightlifting injuries here.

On top of this, sparring is only promoted for those outside of the beginner classes, and even then all proper safety precautions are followed to make sure everyone is able to have a safe and enjoyable workout.

So for a unique environment unlike any other of the Cambridge fitness clubs on this list, Cambridge MMA Gym is certainly a top contender and one that shouldn't be ignored.
