#1 Human Food Energy Bars

human food vegan energy bars

If you’re looking for a real unique product selection in your search for the best energy bars, Human Food is a brand that you must check out.

Their bars were actually developed to help support a plant based diet, which is a rarity in the current market. They contain 100% RI of vitamin B12, which is difficult to find in natural plant based foods. So, if you’re a vegetarian or vegan you’ll be glad to know that you no longer have to worry about not getting enough of this vital vitamin.

Many love to dub the bars ‘organic smart food’, as not only are they organic but they contain everything that a person needs to consume from a single meal. This means that they are perfect to use as a meal replacement, as a workout snack, or even within a smoothie!

Aside from the nutritional benefits of Human Food vegan energy bars, they are also incredibly popular amongst endurance athletes as either a pre and post workout snack. They can also be consumed during a workout, if that works best for you.

Famous fans of the product include ultra runner Catra Corbett, and rock climber Steph Davis. We can’t say that we blame them for selecting Human Food bars to fuel their exercise, especially since they are of such a high quality, as well as being delicious!

To sum up this energy bar review, whether you’re a runner, a cyclist, or a regular gym goer who is looking for a plant based product to fuel your workouts, you won’t be disappointed with Human Food bars. You can check out their shop here

#2 VOOM’s Pocket Rocket Energy Bars

Best energy bars image

If you’re looking for a real unique product selection in your search for the best energy bars, Voom Nutrition is a brand that you must check out.

VOOM’s Pocket Rocket range are an innovative alternative to traditional energy gels with twice the energy of most sports gels and none of the sticky mess. The solid bars have a melt in the mouth texture and come in four chunks so they can be eaten at the best time to suit the you. This avoids a large concentration of carbohydrates suddenly hitting the GI system at once and thus maximises stomach comfort.

On top of fast-acting energy delivery, each of the three energy bars have their own specific function and refreshing flavour. The lemon & lime flavour Electro Energy has added electrolytes to aid hydration by replacing lost salts and B-Vitamins to energise the body. The Caffeine Kick comes in berry flavour and packs 175mg of caffeine as well as Taurine to delay fatigue and give a mental and physical lift, which is  ideal in the later stages of an event. The orange Beta Blast bar is ideal as a pre-workout bar or for high intensity workouts, competition or races. It contains 2g of Beta Alanine which increases levels of muscle-carnosine which in turn buffers against lactic acid; there’s also some caffeine to give an added kick for explosive muscle workouts.

Priced at just £1.50 per bar makes these of the cheapest energy bars on this list, but certainly one of the most effective!

Price: £1.50 per bar

#3 - KIND Healthy Energy Snack Bars

Wondering what makes this product a #1 best seller on Amazon?

Perhaps it’s because it has over 200 customer reviews, of which 92% are positive. Or maybe it’s the fact that this energy bar comes in 12 different flavours, and the option to order a variety pack…

One customer writes:

As sweet snacks go, I’d consider it reasonably healthy in moderation, because of the balance of nutrients: 37% fat (mostly good fats), 40% carbs (14% sugar), 18% fibre and 14% protein. It’s dairy-free and gluten-free and has a very high content of nuts, so contains good micronutrients as well.

We’d be pushed to find a fault with these healthy energy bars, as they seem to have the right balance of great taste with nutrition to justify it. In fact, the manufacturer actually states that they ‘provide snacks that are both healthy AND tasty - not one or the other,’, so it would seem as though this isn’t done unintentionally.

If you’re looking for one of the best energy bars out there for a great price, we’d definitely recommend checking this product out!

Price: £14.99

#4 - Grenade Carb Killa Caramel Chaos Bars

It’s hard not to notice how well these bars have done in terms of customer reviews. The number of 1,841 customer reviews on Amazon (where they are also sold) practically jump out at you…

It’s extremely rare for a product to gain this much traction as trust simultaneously on the platform, which is why we’re happy to include it on our list of the best energy bars out there. It’s undeniable that it deserves its spot from the get-go!

Available in 11 flavours, as well as that beautiful selection box option that we love to see (after all, one flavour can get boring), the Grenade Carb Killa sports energy bars are a favourite for a reason.

The flavours aren’t just any ordinary flavours, like chocolate and mint. They’re ‘birthday cake’, ‘cookies and cream’, ‘jaffa quake,’ etc. and if that doesn’t excite your tastebuds we don’t know what does.

They’re fully certified with the Informed-Sport nutrition programme, so you can rest assured that you’re getting a safe and reliable product.

Is it possible for us to praise these bars any more? Go take a look!

#5 - Trek Protein Flapjack Bars

Looking to get your hands on some of the best vegan energy bars as quickly as possible? This product is exactly what you're looking for.

The boxes sold on Wiggle contain 16 bars of pure goodness for £11.95, which works out at around 75p per bar. One of the best prices we’ve seen so far!

Qualifying as vegan energy bars also stands them in good stead and earns them frequent praise from customers, which we can definitely see on Amazon, where they are also sold.

It can be difficult to find bars that strike a good balance between taste and health, and so we were relieved to find another product that succeeded at this to add to our ultimate list.

When asked to leave a review, one Amazon customer said:

We love these bars as they are a healthy but luxurious treat, and this package is a really good value.

#6 - Eat Natural Energy Bars

If you’re searching for Eat Natural energy bars that are as crunchy as they are nutritious, these are the ones for you…

They have 90% positive reviews and are frequently praised for their ‘wonderful’ taste in comparison to other healthy energy bars on the platform, as well as for being gluten-free.

One benefit of choosing them as your favourite from our list is that they work out at around 74p per bar, which isn’t bad! They're also an Amazon's Choice product, which shows just how high-quality they are in comparison to some of their competitors.

There are a few flavours available on the platform, including:

  • Almond & apricot
  • Brazil, sultana, almond & peanut
  • Cranberry, macadamia & dark chocolate

Price: £7.96

#7 - HIGH 5 Energy Bars

If you like good old staple flavours that aren’t too complicated, these are the best energy bars to try out. There are four flavours altogether, which are banana, berry, berry yoghurt, caramel, coconut and peanut.

As well as being ridiculously well-tasting, the bars also count as one of your 5-a-day. No more artificially fruit-flavoured bars that have all the goodness stripped away! They contain both complex and simple carbohydrates for a good balance, as well as whole grains.

One 5-star reviewing customer on Amazon (where they are also sold) writes: ‘Great source of energy for me about 1 hour before a long run. I use these with a good electrolyte based drink and they serve me well. I always use High 5 gels too as they seem to be the best tasting.’

Another thing to add about the High 5 energy bars is that they come in a pack of 25, so you won't run out as quickly as you would with other brands!

Price: £35.75 (25-pack)

#8 - Natural Guava Energy Bar and Gel

Looking for a fruity option out of the best energy bars in the UK? You’re definitely in the right place. This product is ‘made from 100% natural guava paste’, so you don’t have to worry about artificial flavours/tastes.

The bars come in 3 different flavours, including; coffee and guava, classic guava, and raspberry and guava. If you like guava, these are the bars for you!

Another great thing about these bars is that they are soft and moist, meaning that they easily dissolve in your mouth as you’re going along. It can be really annoying to stop and start exercise in order to fuel up on energy, which makes this aspect one of the most practical we’ve come across.

Speaking of practicality, they also come with biodegradable packaging, so you don’t have to look for a bin to dispose of the wrapper either!

One Amazon reviewer (where they are also sold) backs up their claim to being one of the best energy bars for cycling by saying:

Highly effective at delivering a much-needed fix when you hit the wall on a long ride.

We can’t praise this product enough if you’re looking for a fruity, practical take on natural energy bars. Want to learn more about the company who produces it? Take a look at Lucho Dillitos’ product background here!

Price: £14.99 (10-pack)

#9 - KMC NRG BAR - Kendal Mint Cake

kendal mint cake energy bar

If you’re an athlete looking for vegan energy bars and you already have a taste for Kendal Mint Cake, this product will sit well with you!

They contain B vitamins as well as everything you need for a quick energy boost, alongside electrolytes to prevent dehydration and natural peppermint oil to provide the best mint flavour possible.

The bars are a good size, so although they come in a pack of 6, you can break them down into smaller pieces and take them with you on your run or bike ride. The energy kick is rapid and will sustain you through a long period of exercise, so there’s nothing we can fault here!

Price: £7.99

#10 - SIS Energy Bars

Endorsed by Chris Boardman, former Olympic cyclist and Sir Chris Hoy, ‘Britain’s joint-most successful Olympic athlete of all time’, it’s fair to say that the SIS energy bars have an impressive reputation.

They’re also an Amazon’s Choice product on the platform if we didn’t already mention...

Not only that, but their specifications blow their own trumpet without being one of the most praised products in the niche.

They come in 5 flavours for a start, which are Banana Fudge, Blueberry, Chocolate Fudge, Apple & Blackcurrant and Red Berry. Their flavours are crafted from real fruits and come from a scientific approach (rather than artificial ingredients).

One customer reviews the SIS energy bars on Amazon as follows:

For running and activity, these are great as they are relatively small and easy to carry in a running belt, gel pocket, etc., they provide a lot of carbs for the size and most importantly are easy to get down when on the move. They’re not too chewy, dry, or sticky and wash down well with water. They make an excellent solid alternative to energy gels when in the middle of a long run.

What more can we say? They’re popular with customers, famous athletes, and hold 96% positive reviews on Amazon. We’d definitely recommend giving them a look!

Price: £20.99

#11 - Bounce Energy Balls

The first thing you’ll notice about the Bounce protein energy bars is that they come in a small packet, and are actually classed as ‘energy balls’. This is great news for runners or cyclists looking for a source of energy that’s easy to swallow!

They’re available in 10 different flavours, all of which prove to be extremely popular with customers. They include:

  • Almond
  • Apple & Cinnamon
  • Cacao Peanut
  • Coconut Macadamia
  • Cacao Mint
  • & More!

As well as this, the bars are gluten-free and suitable for vegetarians, so they provide a nutritious, high-protein alternative to animal-based products.

They boast 196 customer reviews on Amazon where they are also sold, of which 88% are positive.

An interesting reminder from this honest review is that either during or after a tiresome workout, it can be surprisingly easy to slip into the trap of consuming empty carbs/unhealthy snacks. Next time you’re exercising and know you’ll be tempted to dive into the biscuit tin, have one of these best pre-workout energy bars to hand and see how much of a difference it makes!

Price: £32.99 (20-pack)

#12 - Matrix Nutrition High Protein Flapjack

Is a flapjack part of the criteria in your search for the best low-calorie energy bars? If so, this could be the one for you.

For starters, you get 24 bars for a fantastic price of £18.99… this could bring about some serious savings if you’re currently buying from a local store.

The 3 available flavours are mouth-wateringly good and include Cookies & Cream, Chocolate Deluxe and Caramel Crunch (they sound unreal, right?). They have a good nutrition profile, and we’d recommend them as an ideal way of gaining muscle mass and healthy weight.

They currently hold over 100 customer reviews on Amazon, and an impressive 92% of them are positive.

If you want to see an example of this for yourself, here’s what one verified customer had to say:

My go-to bar. I keep trying others for a change, then coming back to these. Incredible price and the flavour (I get Caramel Crunch) is brilliant.

Price: £18.99 (24-pack)

#13 - TRIBE Energy Bars

It’s no secret that TRIBE energy bars are some of the best of their kind. They may be a little more pricey than some of their competitors, but they do have free delivery on Amazon (which means that in some cases, the price between TRIBE and some of the cheaper brands are marginally different).

The flavours are particularly impressive and sit as a favourite on our list of the best energy bars. They include Choc Brownie, Choc Peanut Butter and Coffee and Walnut, and they’re just as thrilling as they sound!

Another great point for those with certain dietary requirements or preferences is that they are classed as vegan energy bars, as well as being soy-free, dairy-free, and GMO. They do contain nuts though, so keep this in mind.

They are frequently praised for their flavour despite being labelled as vegan bars, as some non-vegan buyers are often put off by this title. If lack-of-flavour is what you’re worried about, check out this Amazon review:

The claim that these were ‘natural vegan energy bars, gluten and dairy-free’ filled me with a certain sense of dread. I had visions of something very worthy that tasted somewhat like cardboard. For something which is so universal, these are great bars. The taste is applish and cinnamonish, rather than being too strongly one of the other.

Price: £28.00 (18-pack)

#14 - Powerbar Ride Bar Peanut

An avid fan of Reese’s Pieces and want to turn your taste into something healthy and satisfying for your workouts? This product will wow you, especially in the Chocolate Caramel flavour! It also comes in Hazelnut Caramel and Peanut Caramel, in case you prefer either of those.

With a high healthy-carb content as well as a good amount of protein for muscle recovery, they have impressive nutrition as well as flavour.

They're also praised for being some of the best energy bars for cycling by many of their customers.

Of the 84% 5-star reviews on Amazon, one reads:

I’m back into cycling and these have to be the best-tasting bars going. I have to stop myself just snacking on them and make sure I use them only for training!

Price: £15.95-27

#15 - ADONIS Gluten Free & Vegan Energy Bars

You know the saying ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’? You can definitely judge this product for how it looks, as it’s just as fantastic as it claims to be. Aside from their funky packaging, these bars really do contain everything that you need from an energy bar.

They’re suitable for those on the keto diet, which is a rarity in their niche (they could even be the best keto energy bars out there). It allows them to stand out when compared to their competitors and is praised frequently in their Amazon reviews!

One customer states:

I loved these, they were deliciously nutty and exceeded my expectations. There are hardly any keto energy bars available in the UK, so these are especially great if you want a snack in your lunchbox, or if you are travelling.

As well as their great reputation, the ADONIS healthy energy bars are also pretty inventive when it comes to flavour. They come in Coconut, Pecan and even Turmeric! Some reviewers say that this is an acquired taste, while others say it’s revolutionary and the best bar they’ve tried.

Why not give this product a go yourself? It’s got to be worth it for the Turmeric flavour!

Price: £16.90 (10-pack)

#16 - Vive Natural Energy Bars

On the hunt for vegan energy bars that don’t skimp on (vegan) chocolate? Vive has got your back with their take on this product, 100% natural ingredients and all…

These natural energy bars are made of plant protein as well as having a high-fibre content. They come in the flavours Hazlenut, Salted Caramel and Peanut Butter, so you’re not losing out on the potential for great taste due to them being vegan and gluten-free!

They have 88% 5-star reviews on Amazon which is pretty impressive for a product of this niche; people are picky and have varying tastes after all.

Vive themselves have something to say for their product’s quality: ‘We spent over a year carefully curating our bars to ensure they have a smooth, melt-in-your-mouth texture. At Vive, we’re making nature taste naughty.’

Price: £16.00 (12-pack)

#17 - PhD Smart Jack Sports Energy Bars

Last but certainly not least on our list of the best energy bars for athletes out there are the PhD Smart Jack bars. Seen them on sale at Holland & Barret and want to save some cash? You should definitely check them out on Amazon.

For starters, they’re filled with high-quality carbs and protein as well as being suitable for vegetarians. They contain soy protein as well as whey protein, for those wondering.

The available flavours include Apple Crumble, Blueberry Muffin, Chocolate Peanut, Topped Chocolate Hazelnut and Triple Chocolate… if hearing that sentence doesn’t tickle your tastebuds, we’re not sure what will!

One customer reviews the PhD sports energy bars by saying:

Unlike many protein bars that describe themselves as a flapjack, this really does taste like one. It’s a dense, solid and chewy bar, that is packed with peanuts. There is no horrible powdery taste, it’s moist and filling.

We’d definitely recommend giving them a look, especially if you want to save the money that you’re spending at health food shops week in and week out. Over the course of a few months, the difference in price could be huge by shopping for the same brands you love online!

Price: £11.95 (12-pack)
